Alternatives to Contiki for adults who still want a group

Six Contiki alternatives for people who have outgrown the party, the guide, or both: who each suits and what it costs.

People searching for an alternative to Contiki usually mean one of two things: they are over 35 and would like the group without the party, or they want the logistics solved without being marched around. Those want different answers, so here are the websites like Contiki worth looking at, and who each one suits.

If you liked Contiki but have outgrown it

Flash Pack is the closest thing — 30s and 40s, solo travellers, a guide, a real itinerary. If you want the trip organised and led, it is good and we would say so.

Intrepid and G Adventures are smaller groups and more local, still guided, with more free afternoons than Contiki gives you.

EF Ultimate Break is the nearest thing to Contiki itself: the same age range, a Tour Director, coach travel and a shared room unless you pay to upgrade. If what you want is Contiki with a different logo, it is that.

If it is the guide you have outgrown

This is the one nobody in that table does, and it is what we built.

There is no guide on a Guideless trip. We book the hotels, the trains and the transfers, we organise the things worth organising, and we publish the rest as recommendations you can ignore. The group exists in an app and in the same hotel; it is there when you want it and gone when you do not.

The practical difference is what happens at nine in the morning. On a guided tour you are somewhere at a time. On ours you are not, and if you want company there is a group chat full of people deciding the same thing.

What we do not do

  • We do not run 18–35 party trips. If that is what you want, Contiki is genuinely good at it.
  • We do not go everywhere. Three trips in 2027 — the Monaco Grand Prix, Norway's fjords and Southern France — chosen because we know them.
  • We do not guide. If you want somebody to explain the cathedral, hire a guide for the morning; we will tell you who.

Compared in more detail

Each of these takes one company and sets it against a trip with no guide, line by line:

Frequently asked

What is the best alternative to Contiki for over 35s?

Flash Pack if you want a guide and a set itinerary with people your age; a trip with no guide, like ours, if you want the hotels and trains handled and the days to yourself.

Is it more expensive than Contiki?

Yes, mostly because the hotels are better and you get your own room rather than sharing with a stranger. Compared against Flash Pack or Intrepid it is close.

Do I need to travel with somebody?

No. Solo is the common case and your own room is the default rather than a supplement.

What happens if I want to skip everything?

Nothing. Nobody chases you. The hotels and trains are still booked and the group is still there when you resurface.
