Questions
Everything people ask before they book.
Straight answers. Anything specific to one trip, such as its deposit or cancellation tiers, is on that trip's page and in your account before you pay.
Is there really no guide?
Correct, and it is the whole product. There is no tour guide on a Guideless trip: nobody from the company travels with the group, and nothing about your day is decided for you. Your itinerary, hotel details, train times, maps, recommendations and support live in the Guideless app, and real people at Guideless answer when you message.
Am I traveling alone?
You travel independently, but not alone. Everyone on your departure is in one group: a group chat that opens before the trip, a first-evening meet-up if you want it, and optional moments along the way. Join what you like and skip the rest.
How big are groups?
It varies by departure, and it does not change your trip: your days are your own whatever the size. Each trip page shows its ceiling and each departure page shows how many have booked so far, so you always see the real size before you pay. There is no guide to keep a group together, which means there is no number we need to reach. A Guideless trip runs even if you are the only person on it — there is no guide and no group cost to reach, so your trip going ahead is never a question of whether enough strangers book it. The group is there to meet if you want company, not what makes the trip happen.
What if not enough people book?
Your departure still runs. A Guideless trip runs even if you are the only person on it — there is no guide and no group cost to reach, so your trip going ahead is never a question of whether enough strangers book it. The hotels, the trains and your itinerary are the same whether you are on your own or one of twenty, so booking early is not a bet on whether anybody else joins: your trip, your route, the app and Your Group open the moment your booking is confirmed, and if you turn out to be the only one booked, everything except the company is exactly as described. In the rare case we do cancel a departure, you choose a full refund or another date.
What is included in the base trip?
Your hotel in every city at the level you choose, the trains or train pass the trip says it includes, the Guideless app with your full itinerary and recommendations, access to your group, and support throughout. Nothing else is bundled in; everything else is optional and priced on its own. Each trip page lists exactly what Guideless handles and what you book yourself.
Is there a booking fee?
No. A Guideless trip has one price, shown before you choose anything: no booking fee, no service fee, and no single supplement — your own room is the default price rather than an extra. The only things that change what you pay are the tier you pick and the optional experiences you add, both priced in front of you.
Do I book my own flights?
Yes. Flying from many different cities is what makes a group work, so you book the flight that suits you. We tell you exactly when to land and where to go when you do. A private car from the airport, where we offer one, is an optional extra, priced separately.
What do Explorer, Classic, Premium and Elite mean?
Four levels of the same trip. The base price is the lowest level on sale for your dates; the others are priced above it. You pick a tier for where you stay and, where an add-on comes in levels, for that add-on too. Anything without a tier is simply optional.
- Explorer
- Best price. More basic accommodation. Maximum value.
- Classic
- The standard Guideless experience.
- Premium
- Better rooms and better locations.
- Elite
- Luxury. The best available.
Can I choose my hotel?
On trips with stay options, yes. Pick the tier that fits how you want to spend the weekend, for example a hotel in Nice with the train to Monaco, or a room in Monaco itself. The price difference is shown before you choose.
Can I add experiences later?
Yes, at any time, including during the trip, subject to availability. Add a boat day, a dinner or a race upgrade from your account or the app. Add-ons are paid in full when you choose them and show how many of your group are already in.
Can I pay separately from friends?
Yes. Every booking is its own bill. Friends can join the same departure with completely separate bookings, choose different hotels or experiences, and still be in the same group and chat.
Can couples or pairs share a room?
Yes. Your own room is the default price. Two travelers on one booking can choose to share a room and each pay less. Never more than two to a room.
What if something changes?
If a train or hotel changes, the itinerary in your app updates and you are notified. If you need to change your own plans, message support from the app or your account and we will tell you what is possible.
What happens if something goes wrong?
Message support in the app. We already see your trip, your itinerary and today's route, so you do not have to explain from scratch. Local emergency numbers are one tap away on every trip.
There is no guide. What if someone in the group behaves badly?
You tell us, and we deal with it. Nobody walks the group around, which is exactly why how people treat each other matters here. The rules are short and they are in the Terms: be decent to the other travelers and to the people hosting you; no harassment, discrimination, threats or violence; take no for an answer; obey local law; do nothing that puts other people at risk.
- How to tell us
- Block or report a person or a message from inside the app, or use “Report a problem” on your trip page. It reaches Guideless staff, not your group. In an emergency call local services first — 112 across the EU — and tell us straight afterwards.
- What we do
- The least that fixes it, and no more: we talk to the people involved, move rooms around, remove someone from the group chat, and for anything serious or repeated we end their participation in the trip with no refund. We write down what we decided and why.
- What stays private
- What you report is read by our staff, not by your group. We only share what is necessary with the police, a hotel or emergency services when somebody's safety needs it.
How fast do you answer?
The in-app assistant is the first contact for routine questions at any hour. For an active trip, human coverage is planned for 8 AM–10 PM in your local time, with urgent issues escalated for a human response within 30 minutes. In immediate danger, call local emergency services first; 112 works throughout the EU.
- Before you book
- Email us with the trip and date you have in mind. We will reply with the relevant details rather than a generic availability promise.
- During your trip
- Use the signed-in support channel to keep your booking context attached. If you need immediate local help, contact emergency services first and then tell us what happened.
What is the Guideless app?
Your whole trip in your pocket: today's plan, the full itinerary, a map of everything, your documents, the group, chat and support. It also works offline for the itinerary and documents.
When does the group chat open?
Your Group opens in the app as soon as your booking is confirmed: the group chat, the roster of who else is going, and Live Moments. Nothing in it is mandatory. Before you book, the departure page shows an anonymized roster (how many are booked, how many are solo, how many countries) so you know who is coming without anyone being named.
Are group activities mandatory?
No. Nothing is mandatory. Every group moment is optional, including the first evening, and you see how many of your group are going before you decide.
What ages are travelers?
Every trip is for adults: each traveler must be 18 or older on the departure date. Beyond that there is no target age and no upper limit. Groups tend to skew toward people who want the logistics handled and the days free, which is a temperament more than an age.
Is travel insurance included?
No. Travel insurance covering medical care, cancellation and belongings is strongly recommended on every trip. We do not make it a condition of booking. Our cancellation policy refunds what we control; insurance covers your flights, your health and everything you booked yourself.
Can I extend my trip?
Often, yes. Where a trip offers extra nights they appear as add-ons you can book with the trip or later. For anything else, message support and we will tell you what we can arrange.
Can you organize a trip that isn't on the site?
Yes. Tell us where you want to go, roughly when, who is coming and how you like to travel. We research it and come back with a real plan: the hotels, the trains, the route in order, and one price. It is the same Guideless trip — your itinerary in the app, support throughout, no guide — built for your own party rather than a group. Email hello@guidelesstravel.com to start one.
Is a custom trip proposal a booking?
No. A proposal is a researched plan with a planning price, not a reservation or price guarantee, and no room is held for it. Custom trips cannot be booked or paid for online yet. Before any custom trip is booked, our team checks current rooms, price and cancellation terms and shows you any change first. Nothing has been booked or charged just because you made or saved a plan.
How does cancellation work on a custom trip?
It is worked out from the rooms and tickets we actually hold for you, rather than from the tiers a catalogue departure publishes, so it can be stricter — on a trip built from rates a supplier will not refund, it can be nothing back at any notice. You see the exact terms on the proposal and again before you pay, and those are the ones that govern. The proposal also says what we could not book, what is an estimate, and what still depends on a supplier confirming.
