Where you stay

  • Simple, and central

    Included

Bergen centre · Stavanger centre · central OsloIncluded by default

Clean, well-run and a short walk from the middle of each town. No breakfast at this level, which is how it stays this price.

  • The good one

    +$645 per traveler

Bergen harbour · Stavanger harbour · central Oslo

A proper hotel in each city with breakfast, near the harbour in Bergen and Stavanger and walkable to everything in Oslo. This is the one most people book.

  • Better rooms, better views

    +$780 per traveler

Bergen waterfront · Stavanger harbour · central Oslo

The upper end of each city's normal stock — a room with the view rather than a room near it.

  • The best in each city

    +$3,230 per traveler

Bergen old centre · Stavanger harbour · central Oslo

The most characterful hotel in each town on these dates. In Bergen that is a small luxury house in the old centre; in Oslo it is the grand one.

Add on what you like

  • Fløyen funicular

    Ticket · Mon 21 Jun

Eight minutes from the middle of Bergen to the top of the hill it sits under, and the view that explains the city. Walk back down through the woods if it is dry.

    $21per traveler

  • Preikestolen, with the bus out and back

    Experience · Fri 25 Jun

The Pulpit Rock: a reserved seat on the express bus from Stavanger, then about four hours on foot there and back, for a flat cliff six hundred metres above the Lysefjord. The walking is real and the trail is not a stroll; the bus is the part worth booking, because the last one back does not wait.

    $59per traveler

  • Flor & Fjære

    Experience · Thu 24 Jun

A subtropical garden on a bare island in the Ryfylke fjord, which should not be possible this far north and is. Twenty minutes by boat from Bekhuskaien, a tour of the garden, then dinner in the glasshouse, and back in Stavanger about five hours after you left.

    $210per traveler

  • Sauna and swim on the fjord

    Experience · Sun 27 Jun

A floating sauna moored off the opera house, and the fjord to get into between rounds. Sessions are shared and they do sell out on a good evening, which is the only reason this is worth booking rather than turning up for.

    $27per traveler

  • Helicopter over the Lysefjord

    Experience · Thu 24 Jun

Thirty minutes out of Sola, up the Lysefjord and over Preikestolen, which from the air is a flat grey tongue a very long way above the water. The people on top of it are the dots. Up to five of you, for one price. Weather is the only thing that cancels this, and it cancels it outright rather than flying it badly.

Who handles what.

Guideless handles

  • 8 nights in well-located hotels

Three in Bergen, three in Stavanger, two in Oslo, at the level you choose. Breakfast at every tier except the cheapest.

  • The coastal bus to Stavanger

Kystbussen down the E39 from city centre to city centre, about four and a half hours, with two fjord crossings by ferry included in the fare. It is a scenic route sold as a bus.

  • The Sørlandsbanen to Oslo

Eight hours east across the mountains and down to the capital. Reserved seats. The best-value sightseeing in Norway and the reason we do not fly this leg.

  • Your Guide in the app

Where you are staying, when the bus leaves, what is worth walking to, and who else from the group is doing what.

You book

  • Flights

You book your own into Bergen and out of Oslo. Both are well served from the UK and the US east coast.

  • Food and drink

Norway is expensive and we would rather say so than bury it. Budget more than you would for Europe.

  • Excursions

Preikestolen, the Fløyen funicular, Flor & Fjære, the Oslo sauna and the Lysefjord helicopter are optional extras with their own prices; add them when you book or later. Ulriken is yours to climb, or ride up, on your own.

  • Travel insurance

Strongly recommended, and yours to arrange. Our cancellation policy refunds what we control; insurance covers your flights, your health and everything you booked yourself.
